Court History
The Queen’s club was founded in 1886 by Evan Charteris who named it after Queen Victoria. It was for many years the world’s only multisport sports complex with Real Tennis, Rackets, the newly invented game of lawn tennis and also Eton Fives, football, rugby and athletics.
The two courts, East and West, were completed in 1888 and are classic Joseph Bickley courts used every year for the British Open and also a frequent host to the World Championships.
Ownership
The LTA bought Queen’s in 1953 and in 2006 the club was purchased by its members who are now each shareholders.
