Harrow Sports has developed a new racket made of graphite which has the same size and weight as the current wooden rackets and flexes in the same way, although it should be more durable. The playing characteristics are very similar, but the main benefit is the dampening effect on vibrations from off-centre hits which should help reduce injury.
The racket is currently being assessed by the USCTA Rules committee as well as by the T&RA who will each assess if there are any potential issues with allowing the rackets for sanctioned events. As part of this process the new rackets have been trialled by players at US clubs and we hear are very popular at Tuxedo and Aiken.
